A Moment in the Word . . .

"I will come to church when I get good enough."  Chances are that you have heard this before.  Maybe you have even said it yourself.  But there is good news, the Bible tells us in Ps 14:3, There is none who does good, No, not one.  That includes you and me.

Chason Farris
Minister of Music

Chason joined the Central Baptist staff as Minister of Music in June 2007. He has previously served as Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church of Wetumpka, Alabama and First Baptist Church of Satsuma, Alabama. Chason received his Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of North Alabama in 1997. Chason also received his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 2002.

Chason, a native of Russellville, Alabama, is married to the former Shelly Rice of Powder Springs, Georgia. Married since August 1997, they have a son, Brice Hunter, born in December 2002, and a daughter, Lily Mae, born in January 2006. Shelly enjoys sewing and anything involving teaching children. Chason enjoys reading, songwriting, and pretty much all sports, especially football. He will even attempt to play these sports occasionally, which usually results in some sort of doctor visit. Chason also participates in the Alabama Singing Men.

Shelly and Chason both come from ministry families. Chason has two brothers in full time vocational ministry: Cade serves as Minister to Adults at First Baptist Church of Opelika, Alabama, while Caley leads worship and student ministry in a new church plant: Divine Baptist Church in Russellville, Alabama. Shelly’s father, Dan Rice, has ministered full-time for over thirty years in Southern Baptist churches throughout Texas, Georgia, and Alabama.

Chason’s personal ministry purpose is to love God, and love people (Matthew 22:36-40). It is his desire to lead people to love God more intimately and to love one another.
